I'm selling some things and would like a reliable method of verifying cash validity...and where can I get one of those pens? Or...what's the most reliable method or safest way to determine this?

They are fairly reliable on tradional-style counterfeits. However there is a new fad going around where a counterfeit $100 bill is created from a legitimate $20. These pens will not work on this style of counterfeit, as the bill is actually genuine, however the denomination isn't. The best way the spot these counterfeits is to hold the bill up to a light source. The overlay will be exposed this way. To be doubly cautious, both methods should be habitually used.

someone in the retail or banking industry will know this. I know the new bills are designed so that when you mark them with a certain type of marker in a certain way the mark will tell you if the bill is counterfeit.

On newer money, look for the watermark and the holographic features. Go to a bank and get some of the new bills if you want to familiarize yourself.
