I am in a wheelchair & you wouldn't believe the way people treat me!!
When I was pregnant people assumed I would have an abortion or give him up for adoption - people will talk to me like I am a retard - It's hard to get a job & if you are living off the government people will look down on you.....it sucks

I am sorry to hear of your circumstances.
I have a family member who is mentally disabled. They are not in a wheelchair, but they can't function like a "normal" person. It is hard to be dependent on the government for anything.
However, if you really need the assistance and aren't being dishonest about needing help, forget what everyone else thinks. We live in a country that we are able to get some support from our government. People will always look down on other people, it makes them feel better about themselves.
Hang in there. Worry about yourself and just remember:
Mean People Suck.

Yup, sux that you're disabled - but it is not OK to discriminate against disabled people. In fact, it is against the law for housing and employment places to discriminate on the basis of disability.
Don't know why people thought you couldn't take care of your own baby, I'm sure you can, or you wouldn't have gotten pregnant. Being in a wheelchair, in most cases, has nothing to do with your brain - so nobody should be talking to you as though you have a learning disability. A lot of people live off the government - and you should, unless you find a job that pays more - and you like it.

Unfortunately being in a wheel chair does not make you a better candidate for any job unless you have an education like anyone else. Then you are considered a minority that would look good on them as meeting their equal opportunity requirements.
If you passed by getting an education, a wheelchair sure won't "open doors" for you. Passing by an education makes you look like a "retard" just like anyone fully functional.
By the way, using slang like "retard" won't score you any points.
Also another pointer for you. If you give a potential employer your yahoo mailing address they can look up your profile page, 360 and your questions and answers in here and that will add to (or deduct from) their opinion of hiring you.

It is very wrong to discriminate against disabled people.
Most disabled people seen are quite attractive and friendly
where I am concerned. No one is ugly. Only wrong actions can make even normal people ugly and undesirable to be with. God made us all equal and we should treat all people as equals.

discrimination of any kind is cruel. I am on disability myself and find often that I am judged by many. keep in mind that this is purely due to the ignorance of others (the lack of education and compassion). keepyour head high and praise the almighty for each day you recieve another day. he is the only one who has the true power to judge...forget the ameteurs! GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!

Its actually against the law to discriminate against disabled people. In actuality, people discriminate against anything that is different than their perception of normal.

it is never all right for people to discriminate against another....a disabled person has as much right to enjoy life as anyone else....i am glad you have a child, and i am sure your child will give you much joy....those who do not recognise you as just another person, are the ones who are disabled. and they are diabled in the mind...i would rather have a good and fair mind than body.....i hope this helps....
