Dread! I had to have an episiotomy and didn't much like the thought of having stitches. But apart from that, elation, fear, gratitude, FEAR, worry, joy, FEAR and a love so complete that I couldn't understand where it had come from.
Then, I felt such happines when I heard my baby's first sound- it was like a little laugh when she saw her daddy and me for the first time, NO CRYING!
It''s a moment I'll always remember.

i have a very low pain threshold, i tear up when i graze my knee or stub my toe. but i can handle childbirth just fine with the help of gas & air as pain relief. Labour is painful because of the contractions - they are like real nasty period pains, they tighten your stomach and send pain radiating across your lower back, stomach and/or down the sides of your thighs. These contractions start off light and easily manageable, but as labour progesses they get longer and more painful. The birth part is nothing like the labour part. During the birthing stage, you push during contractions and it counteracts the pain. It is invigorating and empowering. As the baby move down the birth canal it automatically stretches your vagina to the point where none of your nerve endings will work, therefore you are numb "down there" so it doesn't hurt at all. The stretching process feels like sunburn, and it lasts for about 30seconds. After that you are completely numb and feel no pain in your genital area. On a scale of 1 -10, contractions start off at a score of 3. They eventually reach a score of 10. But then when you start to push, the pain lessons considerably to the score of 7. The stretching brings you to a 10 again, but then when you actually birth your child the pain is a 0.

Um, I was truley relieved and exhaused but as far as what went through my mind at that very moment I delivered, I would say that I was thinking about the fact that I will never feel that moment ever ever again in the rest of my life. It is definetly a one time feeling of drama and suspence that comes and goes so abruptly. WHEW!!!! Just sit back and savor the moment!!!

Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where can I get a sandwich and cup of hot milk? Oh my gosh, I'm still fat! I wish all these nurses would go away and let me sleep for longer than 30 mins. at a stretch. Did I do anything embarrassing during labor? Oh, who cares...I'm sure they've seen and heard it all. Sandwich, please, NOW!!!

PS: With the first one I was focused completely on the baby, but less so which each child thereafter. I think it all becomes less frightening the more times you experience it.

I wanted to hear my baby cry. Since the baby moves and tumbles inside your body, you KNOW it there and feels healthy (hard kicks and movement are a good sign of a healthy baby). But when you hear your baby cry, you know it has taken its first breathes and HEARING the baby for the first time is joyous and a relief.

I was wondering wether the drugs I was given (that took away feeling to the point that I did not know when I was having a contraction) would be affecting my baby who I was breastfeeding.
