This can't really be answered fairly, so take my answer (& everyone else's) with a grain of salt. Both conservatives & liberals are very close minded, near equally much of the time. Yet, if you watch debates, you can see that liberals are more likely to attack others answers than answer for themselves, and are generally more defensive than conservatives. This will not always be the case, understand, this is just generalization.

I tend to think of "the right" in this nation as being the most closed-minded, however, I've seen, heard, & witnessed pig-headedness on "both sides of the isle." In this, there is no "either - or" in my thinking here: I think that anyone who is "locked into DOGMA" or political rhetoric and ideological "stasis" is, by definition, working with "blinders on!" Both political parties have extremists that "qualify" here, and that is part of the problem withour system that insures that the "old guard" at Capitol Hill will continue in their corrupt - an in some cases, morally bankrupt, practices.

The entrenched two-party system in this country will naot allow REAL election reform, because the politicians "benefit" from it too much... even if they manage to "claim" it all legitimately. We also will never se a cessation to the lobbyist industry in Washington because again this is every politician's "retirement" fund. We are deluded if we think ANY of our politicians are "all that" or "ethical' after their first years of "initiation" into the "good 'ol boys club." We have enough talent in this country to now limit the number of terms a Congressman or Senator can serve... but do you think our "career politicians" like Ted Kennedy or many of the Republican "ancients" are gonna waa- nah see THAT happen? I don't THINK so... "Homey don't PLAY that!"

Both conservatives and liberals are close-minded on certain subjects. As a libertarian, I espouse freedom as the primary benefit of being American. Where conservatives are close-minded on social issues, including same-sex marriage and censorship, liberals tend to be resistant to free markets, reducing government, and trade issues.

In terms of conservatives, you have close-minded confused with traditional. Just because times change doesn't mean that values should. Example: If ******* getting married was a sick perverted mental disorder 100 years ago and was wrong then it is wrong today and will be wrong 100 years from now. Time is irrelevant. Just because a bunch of people are desensitized and are OK with it doesn't make it OK. It's still just as sick today as it was 100 years ago.

Close-mindedness abounds on both sides of the spectrum.

Get this, political scientists classify both Republicans and Democrats as Radical Liberal Parties. If you think about it, compared to other worldwide parties, they are a lot more alike then they are different.

After reading this, hopefully everyone mind is a little more open.

I think there are equal amounts of intolerance on both sides. The media, however, portrays "liberals" as being compassionate, and fair, etc.

"Liberals" are scarier, IMO, because they couch their intolerance in talk of love, peace, compassion, etc. They really aren't interested in "helping" people. They are interested in CONTROLLING people in the guise of "helping" them.

Kind of like the fascists and commies... their systems were based on doing everything for "the common good," whereby the government would be the savior and dispense equality and equal justice for all. We see where THAT led... MILLIONS upon MILLIONS dead, and many more millions oppressed.

In the New Testament, Paul makes mention somewhere that people should beware of Satan, because he comes as an "angel of light." I'm not religious, but I think that applies to the left side of our politcal scale. Beware.

Neither, there are many people who think that their view of the world is the correct one, the only one, the truth, etc. However, this phenomenon is not restricted to what we label conservative and liberal. Many well meaning people are caught up in labels and their view of life without realizing it. So, I think that all of us have areas in which we cannot see "the other side."

Conservative here.

I don't understand what people mean by closed minded. What does that mean? That people shouldn't have beliefs and should just be open to everything? Huh?

I think people should look into things and then decide what to believe. Like Marijuana. I think it should be legal and I'm a conservative.

So, to have a standard of belief and practice it fairly amongst all and to stand up for that which you believe, is closed minded, while lying and changing your view point to what the latest polls show favorable and to save your own hide, is open mindeness?!?

Both sides agree on almost all of the issues. They conspire to divide the public by arguing that the other side is close-minded on the same issue.
