that the common expression ' the writing on the wall' can actually be traced back to the Book of Daniel, when the Babylonian king Belshazzar was giving a great feast. We are told that the great hand appeared and began writing on the wall. The message was one of doom for this king, who was persecuting the Jews, and he died that very night. Interesting, huh?

I have heard this story.
However, I feel that the 'writing on the wall' has a symbolic significance of impending destruction. Because hisltory records that on the night the feast was held King Gobryas of Gautam attacked the capital and put the Belshazzar to death. His death was not natural. This coincidence appears to have been latter raised to the standard of miracle wrought by God's wrath.
