Besides hormones and/or your period your breast tissue could just be growing.

This happens to me right around the time of my cycle. Not every month but some. You could be getting ready for your cycle.
If that is not the case than go to the doctor and get a check up! I am sure it is nothing serious and just hormones but better safe than sorry!
Good luck!

You could be close to starting your period. Breast tenderness is a sign.

You may have banged it against something and not realised, or slept in a position where it has made it sore. Also you can get thrush in your breasts which would make your nipple sore.

It could be from masturbating too much because that's the only way I've ever mastrubated. I had to stop one time because of that, so now I hardly ever do it anymore.

you may have a cyst in your nipple thats hard to feel because its in the nipple area, squeeze it and see if there is a discharge....I've had this problem several times....you should have it checked just for peace of mind....you didnt mention your age?

It could be your period coming.
You could have knocked against something and forgotten about
If it continues, check with your gynecologist to be sure.
