I just realized my hamster is pregnant, probably due in the next day or two. Is there any food in particular that I should give her?

First make sure to remove the male if he's still in there with her. There are several reasons for this.

As for protein-rich food, if you are only feeding her a seed-based diet, I would switch to 50% lab blocks, 50% seed. Lab blocks are availible at most pet stores. I would normally say 75% block, 25% seed, to make sure that the hamster is always getting the nutrients that it needs, but since he is pregnant she will likely be eating both and will benefit from the fat in the sunflower seeds.

I would also add a couple pieces of a high quality brand of kitten food to her bowl every day. Remember not too much though, as one piece is a lot to a hamster.

Clean the cage a few days before the babies are born if you can, as it's recommended that you don't disturb the mother too much after they are born (other than giving her food and water). Since it's so close to her due date though, I would leave whatever nest she has intact, and just change the rest of the bedding since she might not have time to rebuild it.

Make sure to remove any extra toys she could get hurt on, and that the bars of the cage aren't too wide for the newborns to slip through once they are mobile.

My son had hamsters that had toddlers a number of cases. We did no longer something specific like taking them to the Vet. individually i think of that is a waste of money. confirm you supply the mother various bedding textile to make her nest with, and save various nutrition and water attainable. i could fairly propose isolating the male so as that he won't kill the toddlers. before you understand it they'll improve up. We offered them back to the community puppy shop. nicely, genuinely they gave us credit. no longer plenty, like fifty cents each. barely adequate to purchase some destiny nutrition or components with. only confirm you're taking them some the place that is going to sell them as pets and not nutrition for snakes. wish this facilitates.

It's a little late for this question. Make sure she's eating enough food (and don't be afraid to refill her seed bowl more often).
