Why is the middle east in such a mess are the Jews a race of people or a religion ?? Either way why can't there be peace?? This fight has been going on for 1,000s of years at a great cost to all parties involved ////

A religion. There are Jews from all different races including black and asian.

A race, by definition, has specific physical characteristics that differentiate it from other races. Since Jews come in all colors, they cannot qualify as a race. If you believe the bible, then we all originated from the same two people so you could say all humans are one race, or you can accept the current definition.

Neither of which conclude that Jewish is a race.

The people are Jews or Jewish, and the religion which most Jewish people practice is Judaism, although many people do refer to it as simply a Jewish religion.

There are also, of course, Messianic Jews and Jews that have a different religion than Judaism.

Both. Jews trace their lineage from the Israelites of the original 12 tribes who allegedly came out of Egypt thousands of years ago, so in that sense they are an ethnic group. Most of them also follow Judaism, a form of pre-Christian monotheism, that derives from the same lineage as their ancestry.

Judaism is a religion which has a racial element -- that it is passed matrilineally, from mother to child. But, because conversion is also allowed, it is not purely racial.
