Doctors/Surgeons/Dentists all write so badly, as it is written into their oath..paragraph 5. subsection b...
'Any doctor who is found to be writing legibly, with meaning and understanding being gained by any member of the human race, will be struck off the medical register with immediate effect: and will be subject to a fine not exceeding £10,000, and or 10 years custodial sentence': and will be forced to serve as an orderly for a further 5 years upon release!
Would you take the risk???

1. They always seem to be in a hurry to ship you out of the office just as soon as you walk in.
2. Could be because proffessional kinds of people seem to have to keep the standard of being uninteligable to us normal folk (in the same way an 'educated' person might feel obliged to use highly foluted language just to prove he/she is better than the rest of us).
3. Of course not all doctors are like this!

Most likely because they are arrogant and feel someone can just figure out what they are trying to write! But seriously, the problem has gotten so bad that pharmacists have made it policy that they have to have legibly written prescriptions or they will be refused. Good for them.

I work in a doctor's surgery and their writing is terrible, I think it's something to do with the fact when they were at university they had to take a lot of notes and their hand writing becomes scrawl like.

They will tell you it's from having to write fast in college.
But think about this.
A Dr. screws up big and gets dragged into court. They ask why he did that? The Doctor looks at a scribble and says,
"What the Pharmacist gave him is not what that says"
Doc is off the hook...

Maybe they are hiding an inadequacy, anyone who is an intellectual seem to take simple pride in their writing.

Because they have no penmen-ship. I wish they would take their time to write legible. It is a freakin nightmare everyday trying to decipher their orders.
