I need internet links if at all possible. I have info on when and why they celebrate, but not WHAT they do. Also, if there is any traditional food, music, or crafts that are appropriate to the celebration, that would be great.

Actually, Dan's right. Día de la Raza generally goes by unnoticed here. I guess Mexicans aren't that keen on Christopher Columbus, he being the first of a wave of Spanish conquistadors, and all.

Now if you really want to celebrate something Mexican-style, try Día de la Independencia, September 16. The country-wide celebration actually starts on September 15 at 11 p.m. when the president stands on a balcony overlooking the Zócalo in Mexico City and does his famous speech commemorating all the heroes of independence, but it continues well into the next day because no one works on the 16th. I can give you more details if you want...

Dia de la raza is October 12.

Is the day Cristobal Colon arrived to America (specifically to Dominican Republic), it is the race day because that day started the mixture between europeans and native indigenous.

Nowadays it is not a big celebration, because more than the "America's discover" it was a very violent impact for the natives.

Dia de la Raza is a Hispanic-American thing. It's not Mexican.
