So what's important to you, when looking for a home, whether to buy or rent? Ifyou are buying, it may be one of the biggest decisions we make, not to mention financial... yet looking in the paper, looking on apartment sites or real estate sites, it seems like about all you can do is search for number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and maybe a few other features... but then you spend the next week... month... months looking at everything that doesn't meet your needs, but you didn't know until you looked at it... so it would help if they told us more about the apartment or home so we could cross it off the list without having to waste our time..... but what's really important? Neighborhood? Schools? Cable included? Ceiling fans in every room? Pool? Allow pets?

The answers are different for everybody, but maybe there are things that jump out as being important for a lot of people.... so what's really, critically, decision making important to you????

Okay, perhaps let me expand and explain... not questioning the age old buy or rent question.... but what is really important to you, if you were searching, or the last time you searched for a home... I'm guessing you had no way to know whether the property met your needs without actually looking at it.

Yes, if you need 3 bedrooms, then 2 isn't going to do. But what if it was less obvious... maybe you needed to be on a bus route, or you wanted to be on a cul de sac, or maybe your critical determing factor was whether the fridge had an icemaker! No judgements on how crazy your determining factors are, just what are/were they? For instance, for some looking for apartments, it may be whether they allow pets, but not just pets, but dogs, and not just dogs, but maybe LARGE dogs... but how often do you know until you are there or filling out a lease?

I think that money (financial situation) is the most important factor when deciding if you want to rent or buy. Rent is generally cheaper on a monthly basis than mortgage+taxes+maintenance fees etc etc.

If you can afford to buy, do it, it's better than renting in the long run. If you can't afford, then rent, it's that simple.

You need to know what YOU want or need and what you can afford. You have this idea of what you are looking for, go looking, and who knows how long until it shows up. Location is important.
