Nicholas Sparks' books are all really good with some sort of twist at the end, although they are rather chic-flicky (i.e. The Notebook and A Walk to Remember). For a mystery book, go to the library and look in the mystery section.

Happy reading.

I am reading The Iliad by Homer right now for an assignment and it is awful! I don't understand what's going on...so in a way it is rather mysterious!

Any book written by Ruth Rendell.
You could try Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus series.
Then again a lot depends on your age.

If you're below 12
- Try the Hardy boys
- Try the lemony snicketts for mysterious fun
If you're between 12 and 20
- Try Sherlock Holmes.
- Try Agatha Christie to meet Poirot
If above 20, try those by Rendell and Rankin

Read "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger and
"The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini. They're not exactly mystery books, but both are original and excellent stories.

East of Eden by John Steinbeck.

Mystery, murder, deceit, prostitution...it has it all. It's a big book, but it reads quickly. One of my favorites!
