Stevie was the better guitar player. Jimi was awesome, don't get me wrong, but Jimi used alot of new technology to help create his sound. Stevie used his abilities for his sound. I love them both - but as far as playing a guitar, Stevie was more talented.

Jimi came first and took the world by storm
his playing style was unique
he had the courage to go where no one else had gone
he was an excellent judge of new song material

Stevie Ray had the same adventuress guitar spirit
fast and furious more bluesy then Hendrix's

I would say its a draw

btw I saw Hendrix's play at an album promo gig in NYC
for the "Are you experienced ?" album
small venue and got a chance to talk to Jimi and Noel and Mitch
at Club Salvation in Sheridan Square in 66 or 67

was awesome only about 150 ppl there pretty cool
Hendrix and the band was truly tight

2 different styles but Jimi is an original with Purple Haze and Red House. Stevie Ray was also amazing with Look at Little Sister and My Sweet Little Thing. I have a lot of respect for both! I guess I'll take Jimi but by a slim margin.

Vaughan, along with maybe Robert Cray, was a major crossover blues to rock in the 80's. After his death there was no one really filled the gap.
Hendrix influenced rock, blues, and jazz players and obvious Stevie. Give it to Jimi.

Jimi was more innovative; I feel alot of his innovation came from using drugs.
Stevie had more soul into his music.

It's a draw. Both were amazing musicians who died way too soon.
