Cockroaches have been around for about 300 million years, outlasting the dinosaurs by about 150 million years.
However, if a nuclear holocaust were to happen, they would probably not survive (they are almost as susceptible as us) - the same as other insects. In such an event, bacteria would be the most likely to survive - particularly Deinococcus radiodurans, which thrives in as much as 1,500,000 rads of radiation (humans die after a dose of 400 - 1,000 rads) and can survive double that if frozen.

Roaches. Back in my druggo days I lived in a place that had roach problems. I found one in the microwave one day and hit it on high for 10 minutes. Damned thing was still alive!

The cockroaches. They are amazingly sturdy critters. They will still be here when the rest of us are gone.
