how hard is hard? I have a 1995 325is with a new engine and for the first 500 miles I figure drive under 3 k rpm varying speeds, change oil, then after break in of engine 3000 miles, that I could take it up to 4 k regularly on the highway and even 5 k if required. i bought my car from my mechanic who had to replace the engine as the previous owner revved the engine too much. i can't find any details under search engines listing this problem

coolant in the cylinders is usually a head gasket/cracked head.
some cars will have this problem with a leaking intake manifold
gasket, but i am not sure about BMWs. driving it hard shouldn't make any difference. good luck.

I had a BMW 318i to last 230,000 miles with no water in the cylinders.....Good job on changing the oil but did you change the coolant? The coolant might have been to old, when coolant becomes old I believe it turns into an acid which isn't good for an aluminum engine thus eating away at you headasket. So change the coolant and keep the oil changed and you should be set. Now if you feel the need then buy stronger headbolts...like ARP. Hope this helped.

It's heat that kills the motor. Keeping the RPM's down for the first thousand miles or so is a good idea though. After that have the head bolts re torqued and keep an eye on the coolant. Change it every couple of years and change the oil every three thousand.I work with a guy who has a 90 325i with 385,000 miles on it so they will last if you take care of it. I have an 89 that also has a rebuilt motor.

The BMW has a fast engine that does not hide problems
My uncle is a BMW mechanic I used to work with him during my breaks. When he used to rebuilt an engine he used to turn the car on and leaving it on for an hour or so and just keep looking at the temperature after that he used to burn some rubber hahahah
if the engine gonna fail it gonna fail on the first day if your car is ok now no high temperature no mixture of oil and water no strange sounds that's mean it s good
but the mechanic who worked on it should know what is he doing
