Every year here, we have a telethon that runs for 24 hours. It is televised and showcases home grown talent. All of the people audition for their parts and are chosen from among thousands. When they get their letter saying they have been chosen they begin to canvas for funds. Aside from individual pledges there are pancake breakfasts, hoop tosses, walkathons and bike-a-thons. There is a jail'n'bail and beard shaving contests. Anything to spur people to give. It is hosted by the Kinsmen and Kinettes and it has brought in as much as 3 million in 24 hours. Pretty good for a province with a population under a million. I have had the good fortune to be one of the talents showcased, along with my daughter, who was ten at the time. All the proceeds from this go to help disabled and handicapped people. It is a noble cause and everyone here knows someone who has been touched by the generosity of Telemiracle.
