Today, this is the most complex question in the world. The fighting has been going on for decades and no end is in sight. All approaches and diplomatic tactics have been used, and still it all has failed. Yes, I believe the US's pressure on Israel to forfeit its land would led to peace. Yet, I don't believe the US will do that, and if the US did, I'm not sure if Israel would listen. It's complicated. Back in the late 1940s, secretary of State George Marshall told President Harry Truman that he was creating a pressure cooker by making Israel a country. Truman didn't listen, Marshall fumed, and today we have this horrible situation.

The US could definatly pressure israel to achieve peace. one reason is tht isreal is the first country on the US payroll, the US gives then more than 2 billion dollars a year in money, and if the US doesn't give them as much money, they wouldn't have so much to spend on weapons. secondly, the US is a world power and it has so much inflence over the UN security concil and im pretty sure if the US wanted to seriously take action and achieve peace, it could be done, but they seem to be vetoing every chance they get. if the conflict in the occupied territories ended this would most definalty increse peace in the middle east beacuse the conflict between palestine and isreal is the root of so many other conflicts like the currrent middle eastern crisis.

YES the US can pressure Israel to end the occupation of Arab lands.

But NO it will not achieve peace. There's always going to be those select few haters that will never stop.

Israel can have it's own island next to the North Pole and there will still be jacka$$ that want to bomb them.

Israel has already given back land and all it did was give the terrorist organizations more incentive and better firing range. We are seeing that now in Gaza and in Lebanon. As an example, the land was given back to Lebanon and Hizbollah is now using it to attack and kill Israeli military and civilians.

"That is, that experience shows giving up land does not bring Israel peace. Worse, the land that it gives up is then used as forward staging posts for continued attacks against it. " (1)

FYI-The land in question Israel received when it WON a war that was STARTED by the surrounding Arab countries.

So, no, I don't think giving back land would achieve peace. In fact, I think just the opposite.

They tried that for decades and all they got in return was more and more escalating violence. More buses, shopping centers, night clubs, ships, and New York City blown up. They gave back a very significant amount of land in exchange for the promise of peace and in return got missiles fired at them by Hezbollah, the Muslim Extremist group which has repeatedly stated that their goal is to wipe Israel off the face of the earth and refuses to compromise. Meanwhile other Muslim Extremists are killing people in India, Russia Indonesia and the Philippines. So quit trying to blame America and Israel. It all boils down to them being absolutely and violently intolerant of any other religion.

Why does the U.S. have to pressure the Middle East about peace? Why can't they want it themselves bad enough to go out there and get it with their own resources? How long has the fighting gone on and will continue to go on? Peace in the Middle East a pipe dream?

I am not sure, though I think more could be done. I do not know why the US treats some nations (Israel and China being the two that come to mind) with kid gloves (ie, as if they were somehow special and worthy of extra consideration). I do pretend to know all the answers, but I sure wish I knew some of the ones that applied here!

quote "the us can take over the whole middle east"
in your dreams !
dont forget vietnam!you can be equally embarassed again.

you shouldnt believe the lies you say to others like the invincible us military , your just a bunch of cowardly multinational mercenaries whose only advantage is money ,and that wont help in a major conflict.
dont think that whatever is happening in iraq is because of the greatness of your military, its just that there is no one fighting you really .try messing with a country with a real army ,
you will soon be crying and trying to reason and make peace.

as for the solution for israel its simple:
a fleet of ships from america can carry them and dump them back in the garbage cans of europe ,america and africa where they came from in the first place, all 4 million of them.
