it's a matter of logging in everyday and collecting all the points that are up for grabs, and also getting that extra 10 points for being chosen as the best answer... apart from spending lots of time here!
i'm currently at level 2 and the maximum points that i can gather per day are as follows:-
log-in = 1 pt
answer 40 (maximum) questions X 2 pts each = 80 pts
rating 40 (max) best answers X 1 pt = 40 pts
voting for 40 (max) best answers X 1 pt = 40 pts
now that's 161 pts, and if all my answers were chosen as best answers for that day, that's a bonus of 400 pts (40 answers X 10 pts); making a maximum of 561 points per day at level 2.
imagine at kevin's level 7 with no maximum level for answers, the points will literally pile up!
so there's no trick involved - just lots of time spent, brilliant answers and rate and vote to the max!

Seems to me that its 6 months non-stop on Answers. Jane, too.
And "HOPE" you've just admitted to having a main account and this one that started yesterday (July 18). That's a violation right there. Just becuase you can't get more than 30% best doesn't mean anyone can't.
"they sometime use multiple accounts"
"this is where he watches questions"
"I have been watching them closely"
"I see two ppl padding back and forth"
You have no idea what you're talking about. You don't know who has clicked on a vote or not. You should read the stuff in the forum about all the crap that goes on here. It doesn't mean that Kevin, or Jane, or Richard or any of the high scorers or high percentages are cheating. Just because they get votes, and multiple votes, and lots of votes doesn't mean cheating.
"Many times they are the only answerers if not just one other."
Maybe nobody else answers because one or two good answers are already there?
Sure sounds like you're being quick to cry 'cheating'. That's a violation, too, you know = "insulting other participants".

It's amazing how people are so quick to redicule ones success. You all should be happy for Kevin and know that the goal is not impossible to accomplish. I have accumulated several points within a small time range therefore I know it is possible. It is not as hard as it seems.

Does it really matter that much?
I mean.. are we getting paid or something? Is there something I'm missing?
I commend whomever reaches the top.. Congrats to them and hope they stay on top of it as long as they can.
If you are to criticize.. but make it up on the leaderboard, congradulations to you as well for a job well done.
There is no reason to whine and complain.. its all about sportsmanship.. and FUN.. anyway..
Thanx.. -- Rob

Those of us at the top of the leaderboard have been participating for months. For me, it has been over a half year now. While reaching this point I usually tried to be active on the site almost every day and consistent in the quality of answers that I provided. Plus, I also did all of my rates and votes per day. Those things tend to add up over time.
As far as earning 15,000+ points in a week - no one is doing that. The 'points this week' and the corresponding weekly leaderboard have been broken for several weeks now. They do not reset to zero every Monday like they should. The Answers team is aware of the issue and, hopefully, will have it fixed soon.

His 'secret' is that he does what is called point padding and pasting saved answers into low volume questions.
Point padding:
this is where he watches his questions that go into voting... an incredible amount of users don't select best answer. Once the answer goes into voting, they sometime use multiple accounts to only TIE. Whey only tie? Because they don't want to win yet... you can be suspended for that. So why go into a tiebreaker? Because 99% of users don't keep up with those answers past the first phase of voting.
Low volume answering:
This is where they pick areas that have the least amount of answerers. For example, yahoo answers category or the like. Many times they are the only answerers if not just one other.
How do I know they do this? I have been watching them closely for a few weeks now on my main account. You should watch some of them... it's amazing. When an answer is in voting you cant see who they are yet.. answerer1 etc.. and I will keep notes on who is who. Every single time, I swear everytime, when I see two ppl padding back and forth like a sparring match, when the vote is over, they are from the high scorers list. Also, not necessarily the highest scores but also the ones with highest rank of best anwsers per category.
Hope that explains it to you.
It is not a violation to have multiple accounts. It is only a violation if you use multiple accounts for point padding. I have had a lot of yahoo accounts since the 90s btw. One of my accounts was one of the original yahoo accounts as I have always been a loyal yahoo user and stock holder.
That is why I cared enough to examine these people's voting. They are going to ruin it for yahoo and I don't want to see that happen. Just today I had to add a new name to one of my list.
Btw, I can prove all of this. I would not be doing this if I couldn't. I have kept distinct records. There is part of this that I can't mention yet but it will come out when I submit my final report.
FYI, just so you know in the future, the date you see on my information page only shows the date an email joined Yahoo Answers... participation date.

I do think it has been physically possible to make that many points, etc. I wonder if Answers has purposely fixed the high leader board to give us something to work for.

totally agree with the person who posted above this post. we should congratulate and learn from those who are good at something, not be jealous and try to find an excuse to why they are good.

I think people who waste their time on the leaderboard bugging the highest are very annoying. Just leave them alone, and ask real questions. Thanks.
