Nope. If you incurred damages from not having your paycheck (example, the bank foreclosed on your house because you missed a payment), you could sue your employer. However, there is no set penalty for something like this. However, they must pay you. It's a criminal act not to do so.

I don't know anything legally you could do or claim. This sounds like a excuse at that time to get you to quit.If the state for example had your employer withhold most of your check as a garnishment, even though it was a mistake, the employer is not liable. I've had companies that owed me large commission checks use every excuse they could to avoid paying me what was owed, It's normally because they don't have the cash or it's someone in that office messing. if they get caught by you they will always have an excuse waiting and if you have due commissions coming they figure you won't say much, because you need that too. I contracted with a NC based company for 11 years, and the woman owner met a jeweler and they went off and partied it all away, and closed the doors owing me more than I care to say as well I had to pay off my people with my own money. Because their office was located out of state, my state officials would not pursue it nor did any attorney want to take the case. I never got a dime. I couldn't find them as well it was under a corporation that simply disappeared.

I'm not familiar with Ohio law, but unless you're in a union and interest on delayed paychecks is in your contract, I don't think there's anything legally you can do. If you think this was done intentionally as a retaliation for your trying to exercise your rights, then that's a different matter, and you may have a case. Regardless, call your local department of Labor office and tell them what happened. If they get a lot of similar complaints about the same employer, then they'll investigate.

Start with your local Department of Labor office. Ohio has a requirement that employees be paid semi-monthly, so there may be some action they can take on your behalf.
