You could go get some wasp and hornet spray or you could add 1/4 cup dish soap to 1 gallon water and throw it on the nest but be ready to move fast. It will kill most of them and prevent them from coming back to rebuild the nest in the same place.

Spray the nest with a hornet spray or even a hose, but only when the hornets are all out of it. Or call an exterminator. It's hard to distinguish hornets from carpenter bees, which are destructive.

I'm going to say gasoline and a match are your best bet. Considering there isn't danger of burning anything down. Fill up your favorite Super Soaker, I suggest the XP-150, an oldy but a goody, with gasoline, afix a BIC torch lighter to the end of it using your choice of duct tape, then pump the sucker up to max pressure. Aim away from your face and the face of children or the elderly. Get the nest in sight and fire away. Be sure to extinguish the flame so that it does not travel backwards into the pressure tanks. This will leave you armless. And will probably blow off part of your torso as well.

If it is easy enough access, and hanging, I usually get a garbage sack and gently grab the nest and seal it up. You can then tie it off and throw it away. If you are worried about it, you can spray it first with raid and then grab it with a bag. Just make sure not to use the cheap bags!

the cheapest way is to shoot them with water from a long distance. do this everyday just a little till the nest falls to the ground. they will leave. remove the nest when it is safe. don't forget to pay your water bill.
