i know i need the cat, but what other items and i missing

A 1968 Chevy engine had a pcv valve and that was it as far as emissions equipment.Catalytic converters were not installed on any American vehicles until 1975 when you had to run nothing but unleaded fuel to accommodate them.

There was a PCV and hot/cold air blend door on air cleaner with a tube running from the air cleaner snorkle to the exhaust manifold. This was called CCS. Closed Combustion System. If you have a stick shift it may have had an air pump. I had a 68 Chevelle, 307 stick shift, with an air pump. No factory cat on 68.

none! there werent emissions on engines until mid 70's. you dont need a cat either.
