I´m moving to N.Y.from Spain. To get an internet connection to my apartment, do I have to have a land line?

I have looked at Warner, VeriZone and some other. All of them ask for my telephone number. My question is: Is it necessary to have a land line to get an internet connection (my own...) in N.Y. (upper west)

internet connection can come from a number of places.

phone line for dial up.

phone line for dsl.

both will need a local phone connection. most providers will let you do dsl solo. without a phone. but will charge a lot more.

cable modem - you will need cable for this.

That or Cable. No phone line needed for cable. More expensive.
