Guttenburg...inventor of the printing press! Without the printed word, knowledge would have been held in the hands of a very few, and the disemination of knowledge, the sharing of knowledge via the printed word was made available to the masses....All those brains working as a unit...that is the biggest single invention that has benefited man. Make no mistake about it.

Positive impact: Aristotle. Father of logic and grandfather of the scientific method.

Negative impact: Jesus Christ (because he was so terse and so compact with what he said that it has been relentlessly misinterpreted and used to start wars). Christians are too war like -- the needle is buried too deeply in the red. "You'll see how right I really am" over the next 15 years.

My opinion, aside from my religious opinion (which would be Jesus Christ), is:

Galileo. His philosophies inspired free thinking and further scientific exploration which has created a chain-reaction of discovery and open-mindedness throughout the world.

Probably the guy who started painting on the wall of his cave and then using symbols to represent ideas, the first Homo Sapien. John I think his name was..
One off inventions would simply have been invented a bit later by someone else but the first concepts were the beginning for us.

hey do u really think that one person could have made the modern society? It's the combination of all thinkers and inventors that have this impact .The invention of phone;to call your girl friend;the atom to kill people;psychology to bring up fools and the net to ask and respond to stupid questions...and....and..ect...
