The killings came on the fifth day of an Israeli barrage of Lebanon that began when the Shiite guerrilla group Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers and killed eight others in a cross-border raid. The fighting has killed at least 148 in Lebanon and 23 in Israel.*
*This came from the AP a few minutes ago. I believe the Shiite group is located in Lebanon, even though Syria is connected with it all.
If Lebanon, Syria, and this Shiite group continue with the killing of Israeli citizens / military, I believe Israel will not only retaliate against Lebanon, but Syria also. Israel will not tolerate any country kidnapping or killing any of it's citizens. A country, or group, which go against Israel (knowing the ramifications of an aggresive act) only brings the retaliation on themselves. To instigate hostility with Israel is ludicrous.
If Lebanon has no connection with this Shiite group, maybe it is time for the Lebanese to hunt down the group members themselves and put a stop to this Shiite group from using their country to hide in and causing the destruction of the Lebanese cities, by antagonizing the Israeli government and it's citizens.
If Lebanon, or Syria, are in support of this Shiite group, then they themselves are also guilty of the acts commited against Israel and should be held responsible.

At present, Israel is retaliating for pretty much unprovoked attacks on their own troops by Hamas and Hezbollah.
Hamas is the main political party in Gaza and Hezbollah controls a good bit of Lebanon's government.
Sounds like pretty legit self-defense to me so far. Expanding the attacks to Syria and Iran would be going to far unless those two nations become directly involved in an attack on Israel.
In addition: To the individual who made the comment about occupying Lebanese territory, Israel no longer occupies the Golan Heights.

Hopefully foxnews will show the live interview with Netanyaho later again for you. He explained that a UN resolution that allowed the original withdrawl of Israel from Lebanon years ago required Lebanon to wipe out hezbollah and insure the safety of the Israeli people from their attacks. Since Lebanon has not made good on their promise to do this Israel is well within it's rights to defend it's border from rocket attacks and kidnappings.

Israel isn't bullying, it's retaliating. It is targeting those responsible for the murder and kidnap of its soldiers. Israel knows if they attack Syria, they would win. They also know that Syria is the most likely hiding spot for any of Hussein's WMDs. Would you be willing to take that chance? Same thing with Iran, their nuclear program is probably much further along than we are allowed to believe. World War III has already started, but it wouldn't take much to create a nuclear/biological armageddon. Hope that they don't lose the restraint they have shown so far.

The first casualty of war is the truth and the state of Israel is lying through it's teeth with regard to the cross border capture of Israeli soldiers.
Ordinary Israeli's and Lebanese will now suffer due to the corruption inside the Knesset and Washington.
They lied about weapons of mass distruction in Iraq lies lies lies
there was no connection to September 11 from Iraq.

If you're goig to answer your own question, why bother asking it?
Yes, self defense is the perfect reason to retaliate against an enemy that attacks you first. They may be using Syrian weapons or Iranian missiles, but it's still Hezbollah that took those soldiers prisoner and started this mess, and they're the ones getting bombed to bits as I type this. As they should be.
