I don't know why any self respecting person would want to listen to it or have a boyfriend or girlfriend that listens to it. All the female bashing, cop killing, drug dealing, murder, rape and sex talking. It is just so negative. It's no wonder some of the kids today have no morals! If our government had any brains it wouldn't allow this to even go over the air waves. Thank your for your question it is so refreshing to know that there are young men out there that don't listen to that garbage.

Blaming rap music is the easy way out.
I grew up listening to Run DMC, NWA, and Notorious BIG, completely immersed in the culture, and nothing that I ever listened to, or watched on television, deterred me from finishing college, going to law school, or getting a full-time job.
You can't make the claim that 'rap music is idiotic' any more than you can claim that all country music is idiotic, or any other sweeping generalization about a particular genre of music or media. Yes, there are some idiotic rap songs, but there are also idiotic rock songs, country songs, and folk songs. There are also really great songs in all of these categories.
If you did work at Hot97 and KISS-FM, it's probably coloring your opinion in a negative way. Radio stations play the same ten songs over and over and over, all day long, and of course you're going to think it's idiotic if all you're ever exposed to is the fluff that gets put into heavy rotation (and these songs are usually free of any substance).

Rap is not music, it is noise. It goes way beyond idiotic. I would go so far as to say that Rap is evil. It celebrates misanthropy, misogyny, perversion, criminal behavior, and pollutes the minds of impressionable youth. The Rap that does not actually delve into these topics is even more insidious, because it provides the exception to the rule that rap aficionados can point to when singing it's praises.
I would never advocate censorship, but if there were ever a case to be made for it, Rap would would be an almost perfect example. I have made it clear to my children that dressing like a rapper, or listening to rap is an automatic ticket out of my house. It is filthy evil poison, and I would sooner see my sons become gay prostitutes than rappers.

I love R&B music the good old stuff was the best. 70's 80's and 90's.
There are very few rap songs I have ever liked. At first when it came out I could handle it as time has went by it's gotten worse. I like Nelly cause his voice. He can really sing. Some of the rappers can't carry a tune......
Rap and Country have changed BIG TIME!
This happened to country music also. I don't know what is going on with the music unless we are just getting older and we know what good music is... This stuff that's out these days is awful!

Not a big rap fan here.. But I know a good song when I hear one! My wife listens to a location station that plays all rap... Not the stuff you hear on the stations that play the hits! I have heard some really good artists...
There is a group called Nappy Root that is sweeeet!
I always get a kick out of people when they blame their poor parenting skills on the video games and music!! But you right, I has to have some sort of influence on the people listening... If it has a positive message, then it can have a positive influence. The same goes for the negative stuff!

I am a 51 year old white female and I love RAP music- I enjoy opera, classical, gospel, Latin, contemporary Christian, oldies, and jazz as well. To me RAP is the equivalent to what was so outrageous to my parents with Elvis and the Beatles-it is the youth trying to get a reaction. It is also a very sensual dance orientated form of music. I do not enjoy all rap songs any more then I enjoy all jazz. Jayzee, Country Grammer, Shaggy and even Eminem have some great stuff.

i dont like alot of the mainstream rap that just winds up being about drugs, or degrading women. i like it when you can find that one song (of any genre) that actually has a meaning. But alot of the people that listen to rap are so caught up in the scene that the only time they'll listen to a song is if it's got a beat. For all they care the song could be about shoes, i.e. VANS

You're listening to the wrong rap music. Mainstream rap music for the most part is worthless. Older rap and underground hip-hip are talented artists with meaningful things to say.

I respect your opinion very much. I do think rap music is very idiotic, just because I simply do not enjoy it. But I do listen to a lot of heavy metal, with is mostly screaming, but I do not let it get to my head.
The reason why I don't like rap and I DO like heavy metal music is because with heavy metal they do sing (rarely), but in rap--they don't; they just talk in a rhythmic way. So I don't even think that rap is music; it is just trash talk that is supposedly "cool".

Yes i agree, in my free time i run a recording studio and it seems like all i can get to record at my house are these rappers.
The music is simple,it doesn't take any skill to produce it.
I am going crazy because i have to set their and record it, mix it and then lie to them and say i like it.
Well i don't have a choice, because i can't say no to all the money i making off of them.
