I know you said no practicing, but really that's the best way. Also make sure you are in good shape: sprint, stretch, etc. Playing tennis or other sports that require hand/eye coordination and the prevention of balls flying past you would help too.

Its true practice will be the best way but there are some pointers that are often true. Most left footed kickers kick it to the left side of the goalie where as the rightfooted players to the right. this is not always true but in many cases it is.

I coach soccer, I would suggest having someone practice on you. You need to focus on how they follow through with their shot. Learn the player. Look how they run, the direction, and the power.

watch the ball, not the player. do not watch the players eyes as they will usually be looking into the opposite corner. it can get tricky. but i think if your not gonna practice then you wont get better anyway because everything takes practice to improve.

you have to forget that youll hit the ground after you jump. before the kick is taken, picture catching or blocking the ball, say to yourself that that ball is yours and its coming to you. and try to guess which way its gonna go and just jump at full stretch in that direction. remember to always be on your toes, makes the jump faster. don't worry about top corners, youll never have time to take those anyway, try to go for low ones or somewhat low.
