The 7950 GX2 technically does have 1GB of memory, however, each core is equipped with 512MB. So, that's 512MBx2 to equal 1GB. It will probably show as being two GPUs each with 512MB within Windows. It's just like having two 512MB GPUs on SLi, except it's a single board.
That being said, that card will be obsolete come September because the 8 series is coming out by then with support for DirectX 10 and Shader Model 4.0, two models on initial release will be priced between $299 to $599. So... those cards will just crush whatever the 7950 offers now. It's not worth getting the 7950 now, it will be obsolete in less than three months.

they seem pretty evenly matched to me, although i'm guessing the latter one would be cheaper. not sure how many pipes they have, but the 1 gig gx2 looks cool.
