You don't need to convert it. All 3500 of my songs on my ipod are mp3.
Here's the supported audio formats for Ipods:
AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF

FYI, music files don't have to be AAC encoded in order to work on an IPOD. You can use standard MP3 files you download from free P2P progs like Limewire. And once a file is AAC encoded it doesn't work with Window's Media Player so if you have a PC I would stick with the MP3 format.

iTunes will do the conversion for you. All you do is load the MP3 into iTunes and it will convert it over so when you place it into the iPod it plays. Just remember tho that it maybe a larger file then a normal AAC file.

can't itunes convert mp3 to AAC? it's free
as for free music downloads, try insound.com - lots of great, free, independent music there.
otherwise, get a torrent app (like bitcomet) and head over to torrentspy.com

I thought iPod uses proprietary software so it's not possible to exchange music formats. That's one main reason it's not worth spending the money on that gadget.
