I saw on the news he was the lone dissenter to letting Russia join, I want to know what his reason is. Does anyone know? Is he using his vote as leverage against Russia? What does he want from them in exchange for his vote?

The World Trade Organization is a large international organization that requires a treaty for the United States government to join. For each new memeber, there must also be an equal treaty that the Congress, specifically the Senate, must ratify before accepting.
The President knew that the terms of the agreement would not withstand Senate scrutiny and would be defeated in the upper chamber. Rather than give his verbal okay to the deal, knowing that the Senate would kick it out, he told President Putin that it wouldn't work. This saves embarrassment for the Untied States as well as Russia.
The reason we want them to join is so that they will sell us rights to a monster natural gas field in the Barent's Sea (even though we have plenty of natural gas in the Gulf of Mexico...). They would join and we would get those rights. That was the deal Bush and Putin both wanted.
Unfortunately, there are more factors involved. Russia would have to meet international standards of exportation, especially in the area of meat and poultry exports. Those regualtions are now especially stiff because of the incidence of bird flu having been found in Ukraine, one of Russia's largest trading partners. Russia, quite frankly, did not measure up to international standards. They must adhere to very strict guidelines if they want to join the WTO. It is as simple as that.
Russia is powerful enough to push around smaller member states, but not, unfortunately for them, the United States.

He needs to leave Russia alone and let them be Russia, as long as they aren't hurting anyone else. He is doing it for retaliation for Putin's remarks at G8 and for not being more stern regarding North Korea and Hezbollah. God forbid he doesn't roll over and do exactly as Bush says!!!!!

the financial meltdown replace into the Republicans's fault. The conflict in conflict in Iraq replace into the Republicans and the Democrats's fault. The Boston bombing replace right into a terrorist attack and we don't understand if it could desire to have been prevented or no longer. The Sequester replace into the Republicans and the Democrats fault because of the fact neither component ha a mature grownup between their ranks. Benghazi replace into Obama's and Clinton's fault, they could have strengthened embassy guards and whilst the attack got here the lined it up and tried to silence the press.

I would say it was because Russia is still hindering freedoms in their country and in some of their neighboring countries. They have came a long ways, but still have more to go.

Get a subscription to The Washington Times (NOT the washington post) and you'll get the clearest reasoning on it. You can also go to their website and see what you can learn for free, but a paid subscription will get you more. Good luck. God Bless you.
