I LOVE the British comedies! They are HYSTERICAL! Much funnier than our comedies. Rising Damp, Red Dwarf, Fawlty Towers and of course, Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Personally, I like the British comedies better....and so many US comedies are based on them.

Personal favorites:
Monty Pythons Flying Circus
Benny Hill
The Two Ronnies
Man About the House
Chef
Any of the 'Carry On' movies

You mean, who makes the best comedies--Brits or Americans? Give a few examples.

If you mean all-time, Brits. Fawlty Towers still holds up after all these years. Benny Hill is dumb but hilarious esp. the speeded-up stuff. Python is classic but does not date well.

I woudl argue not right now but Seinfeld and the Simpsons are the best comedies of late.

But we're talking TV, right? As what is up with the "Carry On" movies--those suck. Humor for my grandparents--lame-o bad innuendo. The Goon Squad or Peter Sellers does it better.

I love all the classic BBC comedies of course. As far as the newer stuff - I can't believe The Office has not gotten a nod in these answers yet. One of the best BBC comedies ever.

I used to like "Are You Being Served?" And Benny Hill. I remember one joke, where he and another guy were looking for work, and they came across a sign that said, "Wanted- Tree Fellers". He and his friend decided not to take it because there were only two of them. heeeeee heeeeee!!
