It's not the christian god. It's just "god"
Our founding fathers were all freemasons. They do believe in god but it's not the same. look into freemason history and you'll see how this country became what it is today.
Some people claim it's because of pilgrams and such but this country was not created by christians. Everything that america is was done by the freemasons. From the constitution to the bill of rights to the very idea of the United states of america. Look at our capital. You can see the work of freemasonry everywhere.
Though good ol christians had to go on a crusade during americas younger years and made freemasonry "devils work" so now were stuck with it.

God bless America to do the righteous thing. God is generic and can be accepted by all religions. If it was Jehovah, Allah or Zeus bless America I would be against it. As for the Atheists, why are they offended? They don't believe in it anyway, so how can asking for something from something you don't believe exists harm you?

Bless America, from Nome to Patagonia

However, the expression is often incorrectly used when meaning 'May God Bless the US' you see, the US is NOT America. America is a continent not a nation.

God blesses all who worship him, in any name, as well as those who do not but live in accordance to his principles. Salvation is another thing and can be argued differently, but the phrase "God bless America" is more a nod toward the climate and intention with which this nation was founded. It is not exclusive, in as much as praying for our own needs does not mean we want others to suffer, or have their needs and prayers left unfulfilled.

America was founded by Christians, and upon the tenets of Christianity. So it's only natural that they would ask God to bless us.

are you asking Why should we ask for God's blessing? That's a brilliant question? Why Not? Don't you want God's blessing on this country?
Granted there may be a lot wrong with this country but there's a lot right with it too.
Namley people like you who can ask such brilliant questions and get away with it!

Bless means:

To invoke divine favor upon.
To confer well-being or prosperity on.
To endow, as with talent.

So why would we not want God to Bless America? We would want him to bless many lands and peoples.
