It sounds like you are trying to figure cubic yards not square yards, like for concrete. therefore there are 27 square feet in a cubic yard. The formula you are looking for is:
length X width X depth or
26' X 12' X .33' (.33' = 4") =102.96 cubic feet
102.96 or 103 cubic feet divided by 27 =3.81 or 4 cubic yards

26 times 12 divided by 3 times 4 over twelve and you will have your answer. 34.32. The 104 answer from the first respondent did not take into account the 4 inches deep value.

Well, square yards are only on the surface. So, if you want the complete surface area, its
(8.667 * 0.11111) * 2 + (8.6667 * 4) * 2 + (0.11111 * 4) * 2
= 70.455 sq yds
If you just want the area on top,
8.667 * 4
= 34.668 sq yds
