I really do not know why this happens, but most generally people do well with their pets and take the responsibility to care for them as if they are part of the family.
But, u have those people who falls in love with the cute puppy, the cute kitten, the pretty bird, or unique other creature and they do not think about the care of the animal itself. Some people get these animals and they really cannot afford them but they do try their best, then u have those that can afford them and does not care.
As far as cleaning cages i cannot say they do not actually love the animal as they do in their own way, but they do not love it enough to keep care of the animal. Alot of times there is love for the animal but the laziness prevents them doing anything other than that. Some people think they actually do take care but in reality they are doin nothing but harm leaving them in filth.

It's never wrong to show your concern with the way animals are being kept, however, if you are tactful when approaching someone even if it is family, then the situation may go a different way. Such as, saying to the person, I noticed that your bird cage is getting a bit full, may I clean it for you, or would you like me to help you? It's all in the difference of how it's said. You could apologize and let whoever just know of your concern for the birds. This way too they will see you're being the bigger person in all of this, and you'll shine. ;)

No you aren't wrong. Who cares if they are mad with you. Animals deserve the right to have clean cages and live in a healthy habitat. Also they are neglecting their pets. If they have too much I would give them away to good homes. This clearly shows they don't love or respect their birds or they careless that they have them. I think you did the right thing saying something to them. Don't ever feel guilty about it.

Definetely not! I work at a pet store and beleive me its very hard to sell pets to certain people sometimes because of their track records. You should treat a pet the same way you treat your family and friends. If they are going to be restricted to a small cage or living space then you need to be responsible and make sure its liveable for them. There is nothing wrong in you pointing out to your family that they need to take better care of their animals. Animals don't like messy stinky living spaces any more then we do and if you don't tell them who will? My suggestion would be to print out an animal care guide on whatever pets they have and show it to them. That really is the most you can do :)

Some people are classed by animal control as 'collectors'. These are the people you hear about with 20 dogs in one house, or 30 cats. They're all sick and dirty, often there are dead animals in the home. This is a form of mental illness; they think they're 'saving' these animals from being euthanized in the pound, or from abusive owners, or whatever. People who have extreme forms of this condition have to have their animals removed permanently. In milder forms, they can usually be helped by trying to prevent them from getting more animals, or even psychiatric help. If your relatives have too many pets to care for, someone can either report them to animal control, or help them to care for what they have, and somehow keep them from getting more. You did nothing wrong, but people with mental illnesses don't see it that way. They think they're 'heroes' and there is nothing you can say that will convince them otherwise.

Some people just don't care for animal's feelings. Hunters, for example, they shoot deer. Of course it would hurt a deer to get shot, but somehow it's okay with them. If you get an animal that you can't take care of, and you really love them, you should give it to someone else who also loves animals and will take care of them.

Take my advice and don't watch the Animal Cops shows on Animal Planet because that would depress you even more....
....people on those shows are just horrible when it comes to taking care of animals.

because some ppl believe animals cannot feel pain and have no feelings. I don't see how though, just spend one day with a cat or dog and you can tell they are just as smart as people, just because they don't think like us or talk like us does not mean they are stupid, they are built to survive in their own way.

I don't know, all I know is if you want an animal or even a child, you better take care of it.
Too many people aren't responsible.
No excuse for that.
