We used to teach kids with what we called "froggy diving". You get the kids to squat down on the side of the pool (resting on the balls of the feet so they look like a little frog) and then practice going in head first. When they get used to that, have them put their hands above their heads (they way you would to dive) and continue to roll into the water from the froggy position. When they get that down you can start them on the standing diving from the side of the pool...it's just a gradual thing to teach them. After they get it down on the side of the pool, you can move them to the diving board...or you could even start them froggy diving off the diving board. That's actually what my swim teacher did with me when i was little. Good luck!

three people you the kid and someone in the water to quickly go after him/her and show the child how fast that person can get to you once you hit thee water. it worked with my neice nd she was like 3 years old and afraid of the water but she loves to jump from the board now and she is learning how to swim better too so now I do not have to be down by the diving area to get her when she goes in the water. hope this helps you.

throwing them in might cause a fear later on too all I could do at that time they threw me in was tread water LOL
I so wanted to hit them hahaha I was 4 and a 1/2

I used to give swimming lessons at the local pool and I always taught kids to dive in free time. I would start them on the side of the pool first. I'd hold their feet and have them bend over with their arms up (like in a diving position). We'd do this a few times to get used to going in head first. Then I would sit next to them and hold my my arm in front of them raised about 6 inches from the ground. I would have them go in like they had previously and I'd kick their legs up with my arm. We would continue to do this raising my arm a little at a time. After a few times of doing this, they all had it down in no time.

ok for kids it's to put their hands in a stream line position and kinda raise the foot in the back and push off with the foot in the front and go hands face stomach and feet in order and that's how you teach children how to dive
