I moved an old tub(95 yr old house) from under a bathroom window to the side of the room, which was the backside of the closet for the bdrm. I removed the closet wall and put the tub inside the closet space. It was juuuust short of being enough room so we chiseled out enough wood from the 2x4's on both ends and it fit! It made the bathroom much larger. I put a wall in from the closet/tub wall all the way across the bdrm for a huge walk-in closet. The bdrm was large enough to give up space and I got a much needed large closet and larger bathroom with just a little chiseling!

I would tell you to move your wall if possible. If for some reason that is going to be impossible, consider converting your tub space into a walk in shower. It will cost you to have a professonal fiberglasser to build you a shower pan if not than you can possibly find a premade shower pan at a home improvement store for less. Either way you go with your pan, have the shower surround be tile.

Actually, most tubs are built for a 5'wide bathroom, wall to wall WITHOUT drywall or sheeting...the tile board or dry wall goes in after the tup is installed. Are you sure of your measurements? The wall material must be removed before you remove or replace the tub.
