We live in the quote "Real World" and many say get a real job, but I feel if you really have the talent you can make a living at it. Music is a sacrifice, and I feel it is possible to have a day time job and still make it as a musician if you work hard enough.

Absolutely not! Talent is part of it but if you truly have the desire and don't give up, you can make it. Those naysayers telling you to get a real job are probably the ones who have given up on any dreams they had. Considering that 80% of workers in "real jobs" despise their "real jobs" why settle for that?

Everyone has a shot at being something. You shoot once and if it doesn't hit, you take your shot at something else.
If you take a shot at being in a band and trying to make it, and it doesn't work out. You can just try at something else.

You can work hard at anything and still not be good. I try my hardest to be Michael Jordan when I'm playin basketball with my brother, and no matter how hard I try( practicing and all) I'm just not as good/better than my brother at basketball.

Of course it is unreasonable ... just don't forget that most great things in the history of the world started with someone being "unreasonable".

You seem to have doubts about this belief or you wouldn't be asking the question. The only way to find out for sure it to do it. Then you'll know whether or not it's true. One of my favorite sayings has always been "Leap, and net will appear." We can accomplish AMAZING feats when we let go of fear and trust our instincts.

Not at all - if you have real talent and you really really believe in yourself - you've got just about as good a chance as anyone else - persistence, polish and personality!

Not really but the success rate is not high. Better to have a career to fall back on

It's realistic to think so, but life doesn't always flow our way. ALWAYS have a backup plan.
