We live in the quote "Real World" and many say get a real job, but I feel if you really have the talent you can make a living at it. Music is a sacrifice, and I feel it is possible to have a day time job and still make it as a musician it you work hard enough.

Lots of people have "made it" in a band. If they thought it was unreasonable they never would have tried and then they definitely would not have made it. For some people who don't have the talent, yes, it is unreasonable...but how would anyone ever know if they didn't try? I think it's better for someone to try and fail rather than to never try and always wonder what might have been.

Depends how you judge "making it". If you can turn decent cash and you're playing originals, you're already doing extremely well. But even that isn't going to pay the bills. Most musicians at that level can just about fund the music itself, and that's all.

If you are an interesting band, get an agent. Try it out for a few gigs. You may enjoy the money, if not the gigs. But in my view, if people fork out serious cash for a non-covers band, then that band is GOOD. Keep going. Good luck.

If you have the talent and determination along with a lot of luck then of course it's possible. As far as having a full time daytime job and making it as a top act I really don't think so but if you are content playing at the local club level then I say yes as once you make it to the top everything revolves around staying there and the lifestyle it requires. Just remember what "bon Scott" of AC/DC crooned " IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP IF YOU WANNA ROCK AND ROLL"

How long are you willing to give your dream, THAT is a better question. My ex just gave up after ten long years. He has no health insurance or any real possessions and he just turned 30. He's starting all over and has nothing to show for his ten years.
Making it is such a tricky thing in this over commercialized world. I've known many bands who are amazing but never made it big. Hell my friend's band was managed by Joey Ramone up until his death and they make enough to live but just barely. It's a rough road and if you really want it you have to give up so much.

I agree that you should follow your dream. The ones that give up never get anywhere. Stuck in a rut all their lives. Take a chance. Whats the worst that could happen. You'll enjoy playing while trying to succeed.
