one tipe you turn upside dowN & unscrew the bottom. The other typae has a standing base the top slide down over it & twists to lock - twist that back & slide up.

turn it upside down, unscrew the base part, dump out the stale water, refill the large part, and rescrew on the base

Turn it upside down take the bottom off fill top with water replace bottom and turn upright .
