It is impossible for a human being to never sleep but it is possible for human being to sleep at any day cycle. For example, NASA scientists during the Rover expedition had to sleep the Maritans 52 hour day cycle. What they did was set the clock to work at 52 hour, remove any light referene point which could "reset" your day to 24 hr/day. Eventually, their bio clocks were synced to Mar's daily rotation for research. (Also, people were tested in an enclosed lab which has no sunlight source nor clock)

Sleep is a function that allows the body to rest and restore itself both mentally and physically. During REM sleep, a stage of sleep the brain becomes very active, more than when you're awake. This is the dream phase of sleep. What does this all mean? It means that even though sleep can be physically compensated for, it cannot be mentally substituted. Truthfully, you would become very depressed to the point of suicide. Did you know that you can go more than twice as long without eating than sleeping?

It is impossible.
I was present at a contest that was a "Stand-A-thon" where participants were allowed 1 hour in 24 to sleep. The winning prize was a double wide mobile home, or $35,000 . It went on a lot longer than the contest supporter. Interesting g things were, when it got to the 3rd day, participants were beginning to hallucinate. Not only that , their physical condition began to deteriorate. Sorry I don't have the exact figures of the times, but it did go on for at least a week.

Yes it is possible for some people to never sleep. The only thing is they die. Your body can go to sleep, but your mind could stay "ON" all the time. Like sleep walkers, they are a sleep, but their body is not. Their brain is "OFF" thats why they dont remember doing any thing. You can die from sleep deprivation. The brain will eventually shut down for good.

No, your brain needs to sleep. I have tried going long periods with inadequate rest and actually fell asleep while talking to others without my even being aware of it when I woke up. Have seen others do the same thing.

No, because the body(most importantly the brain) needs to rest in order for the brain to regenerate and conserve energy for the next day.
