Average snowfall for Buffalo really varies regarding location. Downtown Buffalo and northward really don't get a lot of snow but the southtowns get really hammered every year. Ski country does quite well.
"Buffalo has an exaggerated reputation for severe weather. The region experiences a fairly humid, continental-type climate, but with a definite maritime flavor due to strong modification from the Great Lakes.
Winters in Western New York are generally cloudy, cold and snowy, but are changeable and include frequent thaws and rain as well. Snow covers the ground more often than not from Christmas into early March, but periods of bare ground are not uncommon. Over half of the annual snowfall comes from the lake effect process and is very localized. Lake effect snow occurs when cold air crosses the relatively warm lake waters and becomes saturated, creating clouds and precipitation downwind. Due to the prevailing winds, areas south of Buffalo receive much more lake effect snow than locations to the north. The lake snow machine can start as early as mid November, peaks in December, then virtually shuts down after Lake Erie freezes in mid to late January. "

You can go to weather channel to find out that information. I'm from Buffalo and I love the snow. I wish we had some today because it's so hot. I never complain in the winter because I love the cold and the snow. You can dress up very warmly. The summer is so hot but you can't take off all of your clothes or you'll be arrested. The snow usually start in Late November some times it surprises us and won't snow until December. The snow usually stops in late March early April. In Buffalo you can't predict whats going to happen next. We could have a blizzard one day and a heat wave the next. You never know with Buffalo.

Nowadays, snow starts in December and rarely lingers past April. The past few Decembers have been snow-free right up to Christmas. A few years ago my rose bush bloomed in December.
Average total snowfall is around 90 inches, with frequent thaws that permit year-round bicycling. Buffalo had not had a blizzard in six years. I chalk it up to global warming.

When the air temperature drops below the water temperature and the air temp is at freezing or below. The warm moist air from the Lake moves over cold ground, ice crystals will be formed.
Only a guess, but Buffalo probably gets 200 inches or more.
