If you were to restrict the word crusader to its historical association Israels cannot be called crusaders. However, if you take the general meaning as one who fights for his religion they certainly are. They have reestablished themselves in the very land of their forefathers from where they were driven out and disperse all over the world. In this struggle their opponents were the same as faced the Christian warriors of the middle ages trying to liberate their sacred land from the Muslim invaders(though they say hat the crusades were in fact wars were more trade wars fought to reopen the trade land routes to the East usurped by the resurgent Muslims).

Now if we were to take into account the single-minded steps taken by Israel to gather together the Jews spread all over the world the term crusade becomes them as to nobody else. In bringing back their long lost brothers to their promised homeland Israel ignored all the ethnic and other changes the migrant Jews had undergone through the ages. They have forged them into one nation the Israel. They have so far held their own in the inimical environs of the Middle East but one fears about the future. Would the middle east be the sight of the Battle of Armageddon described inthe Bible that will finally destroy the world.

Because they are making themselves look that way. Anyway Jews are not "Crusaders", they are considered "God's Chosen People". Christians are "Crusaders", and Muslims are "Jihad". See how this goes? Everyone has a label according to the conquest or war.

the crusaders were, as far as i remember, christians from europe charged freeing jerusalem from muslim invaders. as Israel already controls jerusalem, i'm not seeing the equivalence.
