I have been confused for mexican before by idiots who think anyone who does not look pink blonde blue eyes is mexican. I am not a Mexican. People expect all Italians to be fair. I blame the north Italians. They arent real Italians anyways like the Sicilians who arent germanic

It depends where you are. People will assume you fit into the "minority" group that is most prevalent in that area.
I'm from a mixed background (Dad is from India, Mum is from England) and have a "olive" skin tone (actually, I think it's more coffee-ish, but you get the idea). Growing up in Canada, people always assumed I was native American. When ever I've visited the USA they've always thought I was Mexican (I've even had problems getting through customs there because of my skin tone and my last name, which is Portuguese) Now that I live in the UK, people assume I'm at least part Indian. You see, in each of those places, those minority groups are the most prevalent, so they assume if you look it, you probably are.
It's probably wrong to assume someone is something based on their looks, but we all do it to some extent. Different races do have a specific look, but as the world becomes more inter-racial, it is harder to determine someones background from just their looks. I wouldn't be offended by people thinking I'm something I'm not, I just correct them.

LOL you know so many people think my husband is Mexican. Some people come up and talk Spanish to him it is so funny. He is Arab and he has that nice olive color like Italians. He just blows if off and says he is not Mexican. But as to why people do that I don't know. Thats like saying anyone with black skin is from Africa. People need to get a life and stop trying to categorize people by their skin color.

mainly because most mexicans have "olive" skin, and since there are som amny of them around now adays its a natural conclusion.
