As stated above a codec is a set of instructions on how your computer can access files using a certain type of encoding.

The main options available are:

1.)Free codec websites
2.)Codec packs, such as Nimo and Ace Mega Codec Pack(however they include more codecs than you will ever likely encounter)
3.)Use a utility such as Gspot(not the no space when searching), which can usually tell you what codec is being used for audio and video, which will make searching easier.

The most common codecs that aren't naturally supported by windows are DivX and its offshoot Xvid.

Codec is short for COder/DECoder. It is a small piece of software that decodes the movie format they you are trying to play. All Video and Audio formats need of Codec of some description. The best thing to do is a search using the name of your your codec or its extension. You may have to pay to down load the codec, but keep searching as some one may have it for free.

Generally when you record any song/ movie, the recorders and other devices do recording in anolog format. to store anolog data computers need more space. So to reduce the size of the file, use codec.

Which is noting but compression alogrithm? it applies to only audio and vedio formats. these alogrithms cannot be used for data compression, as data is stores in digital format.

on torrentspy run a search for the ' k-lite' codec pack worx fine for me,, if that doesn't work try the 'indeo' pack.
good luck

ps. have a look for g-spot 221 while your there, that tells you what codecs you have and what ones you need for the videos you want to watch.
