That's very good, now hire a contractor. Seriously, you would end up having to subcontract parts of it out anyway. Hire a general contractor, and act as a subcontractor, taking on projects you know you can do. This will keep the project on schedule, ensure quality, and still give you the satisfaction of having done it yourself. It'll prevent a lot of marital problems also.

This is a very strange question. What does being handy with tools have to do with building a house? Do you know anything about construction? Can you measure accurately? Have you looked up code in your area? My husband and I have been remodelling and building on to our houses for 18 years and every project we take on takes a great amount of research to be sure we can handle it. Some things are better left to the experts, but you could learn a lot by volunteering for Habitat or just helping out a friend. Good luck with your research!

This is not intended to be rude but just a statement. If you don't know if it would be hard or not to build a house you probably shouldn't be doing it. There are so many things that go into the process you wouldn't believe it. Many people are need to do the intracasies of the house. Leave it up to the professionals or have them do the framing and big parts of construction and you do the finish work. You can save much if you could find a carpenter willing to do this.

GOOD you have recognized your deficiencies, that's the first step. I get this question all the time. You may have some knowledge of the tools required, BUT you have NO knowledge of the tricks of the trade. I"ve been in construction for most of my life, and I still don't know all the tricks. You might consider volunteering for Habitat for Humanity you might figure out that you won't be able to pull this off by yourself, or even with a couple of beer buddies. Most Craftsmen who do this for a living are not given a chance to run a house job until they have been doing it for 5 to 10 years or more.

Of course you can build your own house..I have several times. I strongly suggest you hire ONE good carpenter to work with you, you be his helper. Keep your eyes open and learn how to do it. The two of you can do the whole thing, you can take pride in it, and you will know how to build the next one. I was lucky, had a friend who had just built his house hiring one carpenter, learned the in's and out's , then he and I built my first one...funny thing is, after about one week, I was telling him how to do this, that... I did all the electric to code, he did all the plumbing to code. We had a great time and the house was wonderful. Good luck

I tried to build a shop in my back yard. I had absolutely no problem with the building, my problem was with the morons our city uses for inspectors. I could tell you hours of stories about those fools and you probably wouldn't believe more than half of them. If you live under any sort of BS like I do, and don't know who to bribe or where to take the inspector to lunch, you don't have a chance. Not a snowballs chance in heII.

Depends on lots of things, size ,type of construction, roof details Look into kit homes or companies that partially build and you finish .
Help someone who is building one or volunteer at habitat for humanity to see for yourself.

If you are good at using tools, then it should not be too hard, but how good are you at maths? If not too good, than I would say stick to demolition of houuses.
