Some disabled people don't want help, they are independent. The government helps them. My daughter is disabled and I cant even get a worker for her in the home, but why should anyone care?

Many people fear those with disabilities, and feel revulsion when they see someone who is deformed or disabled.

The best explanation for this I ever heard was that it is an extremely old trait common to most mammals, to help them avoid mating with and wasting energy on those in the herd who cannot survive.

Of course, this is the way an animal feels and reacts; a human must rise above his fear and treat others with compassion and respect. Humans are meant to be more advanced than animals, and it is humane to assist those of us who need help, protection, or just a little extra care.

It depends on what kind of help you mean. I will open a door for someone who is disabled, of course I will also open a door for someone who has their hands full, or hold a door for anyone behind me. If I see someone who looks like they are struggling I will ask if they need help, of course this doesn't only apply to someone disabled it also applies to anyone else. Most people who are disabled function pretty darn well on their own.

I have M.S. and I don't want or need any damn help. People need to learn to help themselves. A good Family always help their disabled relatives. But a good person with a disability does everything he can to overcome the problem without any help. Try it. It might just do some good for your self-esteem.

Perhaps because they may be afraid, or feel like they're "superior' to them. I think disabled people should be helped as much they can

Because most of the people without disabilities are normal, and normal people suck.

Opinionated has the right answer. People in general can be very stubborn and want to do it themselves. One way or another.
