One. Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, choose Disc Cleanup and run it for everything except the last two on the list.

Two. Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disc Defragmenter, and choose to defragment [could take a while to complete if you have not done this in a while].

Three. Go get an anti-spyware program, you can get them free from the net, for example, Lavasoft gives out AdAware Personal SE. Install and run the program and choose to remove everything it finds.

Don't bother with deleting history and cookies as that does nothing to speed things up. Don't bother to fiddle with msconfig as your computer worked fine with the entries there before it slowed down, and you could end up futzing up your computer by mistake.

Spyware can definitely slow things down, and the disc cleanup utility will get rid of some things lying around that could act to slow it down. But it really doesn't get much, which is why you need the anti-spy porgram. Most importantly, the defragment operation will reorganize your hard drive so that files are not scattered all over the place and this will speed things up considerably.

After all that is done, run an anti-virus program to be sure that you don't have any viruses. www.trendmicro.com, housecall, is a free online virus scanner/removal site. If you have an anti-virus program installed already, you don't have to do the web-based scan, just run your anti-virus program scanner after checking for updates.

But mainly, the three things I list above will greatly improve the machine's performance. Then, after all this is done, be sure to defragment your hard drive at least once a week, whether it says it needs it or not, and be sure to run the anti-spyware program at least every couple of days as well.

And never don't have your anti-virus program running, except maybe if it is interfering with the installation of a program [sometimes they do].

Run a spy ware program and make sure things are good there, you can do a disc clean up and also defrag which will help, to do these go to start, programs, accessories, system tools and you will find them both there.

Go to "tools" "internet options"..."delete files" then "delete cookies" then "clear history". Those are your cache files (temporary internet files) and they really take up a lot of space.

Hope that helps

p.s. Do that pretty often to keep it running faster.

very witty, clever, outgoing, humorous, confident, egotistical, a jerk, sarcastic, intense-high quality, goofy, social, desirable, manipulative, personable, "cool", candy. an addict. nicely i basically found out you pronounced purely 2 words. that takes the exciting out of it. if i've got been to describe him in basically 2 words it would be... clever and desirable.

Computer Slow

Download and then run startup.exe at:

http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.

Other things to try:

1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)
