The answerers are assuming you're an American citizen. If otherwise, the answer is Yes, you do need a passport. Apply for a replacement in either case. It's dangerous if someone finds your lost passport and steals your identity!

Yes you need passport for going to Canada.

You can easily get another passport

It's been about 18 months now, but when I tried to go through with a bunch of my friends, they told us they would accept a birth certificate, or voter registration card, combined with a driver's license instead of a passport.

going into canada is little problem. getting back to the usa could be... i went recently and had my drivers license and birth certificate. sometime in the future the usa will require a passport.

I live on boarder,so alll this people are hooked up from each country. Well, we need no passports yet,but they are working at it. Thet will have to buy one to come here to work. We are not allowed to work over there so we go there and do business,whatever. So. it may not be worth it to us to go to canada anymore.For children it will cost less.

beginning next year a passport is required but of now, it still is not a requirement although it is highly recommended.

you don't "need" one...you can cross the border with your drivers license....
