If you are on dialup it will be very expensive! You will need to add the dialing code for the UK to the string it dials when it dials in. If you are on ADSL, I think you can forget it. The ADSL number is not a normal telephone number and I don't think putting the country code in would work.

If want you really want to do is read your BT Internet email, then you can use any public Internet access point in France and then go to http://bt.yahoo.com and logon as normal to read your email.

If you want to take your own computer to logon to the Internet, then I would recommend the Freesurf service

and it worked great. You just pay per minute charges.
