This will probably focus on cats and dogs, but by all means mention other pets (hamsters, etc.) if it seems worth mentioning, even if they are otherwise little or slow.

ha ha. ive got tons of stories about all my pets..dogs, cats, horses, goats..even a turtle. but the most amazing i think is about a hamster i had named Zack, he was a brown and white teddy bear hamster.
Zack was my breeding "stud" hamster. (i raised hamsters for 5 years.)
well Zack was in need of a new cage..since he ATE the plastic lid off the top of the one he was in...SO to keep him from getting out i put a huge dictionary on top of the lid to hold it down till morning. i planed on going to the pet store and getting him a brand new large cage. anyways...i settled him on top of a counter in my bathroom for the night, then shut the door and went to bed.

late in the night i felt this THING crawling on my foot! i freaked out...flung the covers off my bed and ran to switch the light on. i carefully made my way back to the bed and peeked under my blanket. THERE was Zack just sitting there looking at me with his big black eyes as if to say, "What?!"
i laughed so hard...trying to figure out HOW he had gotten out. i picked him up (and cuddled him for a minunte..he LOVED being scratched behind his ears) and walked back into the bathroom where his cage was.
he had managed to knock off the 5 lb. dictionary, knock the lid down INTO the cage propped up on one end of the opening; in effect making a ladder out of the cage lid. he hopped down off the cage onto the counter, then off that onto the toilet...then to the floor. he managed to SQUEEZE his fat butt through the crack under the door, then scale my wooden bed frame and shimmy under my blanket to make his way over to tickle my toes!
well...i put Zack back..had one more good laugh..then put TWO dictionaries on the cage.
he didn't get out that time. and the next day he had a new improved escape proof cage!

R.I.P. Zackary

We once had two Shih-Tzus we bred for puppies. Shih-Tzus rarely have more than 4 puppies and 4 is a very large litter.

First litter out our Shih-Tzu had 6 puppies. That's fairly amazing, unheard of. But get this.....

Next time she was pregnant she got very big early again. Shih-Tzus have 6 teats. A couple of weeks before delivery it's like she got a mole on her teats. We were worried about it. The dang thing grew into a fully developed nipple with an extra, 7th fully developed teat before her delivery.
The dog had 7 puppies in the litter that she nursed successfully. That's damned amazing. I grew up on a farm and I'd never seen anything that....miraculous. True story.

One of my cats stepped on an Oak snake without seeing it. When the snake moved, the cat jumped 3 feet in the air, turned 2 flips and landed 6 feet from where he started
I also had a hamster that would get in his exercise wheel and run, then grab the wheel and spin around until it stopped

I brought home a ham sandwich once and had it laid out on the table. I had only turned my back for a second and my dog was away with it. When I managed to get it back, I scolded the dog then put the sandwich in the bin (which is inside a cupboard) before going away into another room. That's when I heard an ominous rustling sound. I went to see what was happening only to find the bin cupboard open and my dog merrily feasting herself on the sandwich. I'll never figure out just how she opened that cupboard!

I used to have a kitten 3 months old. One day he was sitting on the sofa after unsuccessfully chasing a nagging fly. I am sure he was pretty much irritated because of the random motion of that fly. So after a much tiresome time he was lying there quite peacefully. I was standing there writing on the desk when suddenly he gave a huge leap on the air and caught something, after which he landed on the floor in a precise and graceful manner. I wish I could have captured that moment. Later that day I found the body of a dead fly on the floor, and I realized that it was the same fly which my cat had slapped.

I let my pet hedgehog outside in the grass to play. She walked back to the house, climbed up the stoop, nudged the cracked door all the way open then went and sat in the kitchen next to the air conditioning vent. Any other critter would have run away but not mine, she's obsessed with good air conditioning.

I used to have a guinea pig named Flick. We called him Flick because he would flick his bedding. So anyway, his cage was in a plastic see-through tote on a shelf about 1 & 1/2 ft. high. I was playing with my Barbie house in front of it. All of a sudden, he flicked his bedding, and the cage with it! The cage, with no lid, did a double spin and landed up right on the barbie house! No inguries or anything. It was so funny. Then he acted like nothing happened! Well, bye bye! Have a nice day!

My rattie used to stand on her hind legs and beg for treats take them down to her house and return for more. Another one is come to our room every night around 2 am and lick our faces to play! After three weeks of this we would close the door so she would leave us alone but after a while if we went to the bathroom she'd come in anyway. I saw her waiting one night under the bed in the other room and when she saw me go to the bathroom she came over and jumped up on my foot.

My pregnant dog went barking at a nasty 4 y.o. child who rushed to hit her with a fist. That was the first and the last time my angel barked at a child. Small kids can be dangerous for pets.
