i have a 2000 dodge neon. Yesterday i turned the engine off and took the keys with me. went back outside and the car will still running. After awhile it did start back up. went on another drive, came home and the car would not turn off..even with the key not in the ignition. Darn thing ran out of gas during the night. anyone know what th problem could be?

The car does not have a remote starter and i did have a cd player added on by best buy about 2 yrs ago.

sounds like a shorted ign switch . has anyone installed a aftermarket radio, amp or anything recently?i know some keyless entery systems will allow the remote to start your car but if it is a aftermarket installed kit, i would look there. [note some of these kits are junk].

Does it have a remote starter on it? Could be the remote start. They have a mode called "pit stop" but they will generally shut off after the programmed time runs out. Sounds like you've got a bad ignition switch.

Sounds like you need a new ignition switch. The thing you stick the key into.

sounds like the ignition starter switch needs replacing. it is located on the steering column below the lower dash panel

there might be a little problem you should check an auto parts store and ask for your car manual or instructions on your car
